As I was going over the last few days, something in particular came to mind. I was recalling a conversation I had with Logan. On Thursday, he told me that he had notified Sifu Rybak of his decision to no longer be a part of the IHC team.
Wow!
I wasn’t overly surprised about his decision, but I was disappointed. Not disappointed in him, but disappointed because I know how valuable being on the team is and the positive influence, it can make in one’s Kung Fu and life.
Now that a few days have passed, and I’ve had time to reflect on his decision, I also realized how proud I am of him. I know this was a difficult decision and one that he does not take lightly. At the beginning of the year, he didn’t feel being on the team would serve him, but followed his instructor’s advice, and tried to make it work.
Stepping outside the box and going against the grain to forge his own path takes courage. Logan hasn't quit or given up, he’s actually being true to his needs and creating some needed personal space. Going against what’s in his heart would have only continued to build resentment. Having the self-awareness and fortitude to make an unpopular decision shows commitment to himself and the desire to move forward in a way that is both healthy and positive for him.
